No one is immune to Trauma, it affects everyone.

Each year, nearly 150,000 Americans die from injuries. Injury is the leading cause of death and disability among children and adults in the country. Having a well-organized, viable system of trauma care in your area makes a difference.

The Central Mississippi Trauma Region (Region 3) was formed to address the epidemic of Trauma that devastates the Central Mississippi area. Our goal is to decrease injury and death due to traumatic injury by developing and maintaining a comprehensive trauma system for the residents in our Region.

Studies have shown Trauma Systems can reduce the preventable death rate by 20 - 30 percent; some say even up to 50 percent. For example, studies of Trauma Systems in the United States, where the most severely injured patients are directed to specialized Trauma Centers showed that the benefit of an organized system of trauma care can reduce the risk of death by greater than 50 percent among seriously injured trauma patients. As an added benefit, these survivors have shorter hospital stays, freeing up resources for other needs.

Trauma Systems are designed to take maximum advantage of the "golden hour", the sixty critical minutes when a life hangs in the balance. Getting full-fledged trauma care within an hour after the injury occurred can mean the difference between life or death, or whether you fully recover.
